Basket Weaving Workshop with Nancy Wood

In this workshop participants will be taught a basket weaving technique called twining. Using soft fibers such as twine or hemp you will learn how to start a basket, how to create four different patterns, and how to finish the rim of your basket. Participants will be able to complete one small basket/vessel to take home with you. Bring a small pair of scissors if you have them, all weaving materials will be provided. No experience is necessary.

Nancy Wood is a basket maker and artist living in North Adams. She studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and continued her studies of traditional and contemporary basketry from experts in the field from New England, North Carolina, and Australia. Her sculptural weavings and vessels have been exhibited in galleries throughout New England and she is currently a member of Future Lab(s) Gallery in North Adams.
